Ministry of statistics and programme implementation developed a national indicator framework in 2016 for reporting the national progress in sustainable development Goals targets of India with the consultation of central ministries , state governments and UN custodian agencies & stakeholders. NIF has nationally defined 306 statistical indicators responding almost all SDG goals and targets i.e. reviewed by high level steering committee periodically. 

The annual NIF report 2024 is released on 29 June centered around 17 SDG goals & 169 associated targets. Indian government also preparing for eradicating extreme poverty by 2030 i.e. measured as people living on less than USD 1.25 income in a day. 

Key highlights of SDG-NIF 2024

  • The notable consistence progress is be observed in increase of self-help groups and their account linkages from 18.32 lakhs in 2015 to 44.15 lakhs in 2024.
  • SDG 2 has obscure progress with reduction in stunning of children under 5 years old by 2.9% in half decade.
  • The country's neonatal mortality rate is 20 per 1000 live births. Vaccination of BCG, measles and three doses each of polio and DPT or Penta vaccine (excluding polio vaccine given at birth) in 12-23 months children is raised from 62% to 76.6% in 6 years.
  • Gross enrolment ration increased by 8.7% in higher secondary education in 7 years time span with almost 7% increase in last 2 years.
  • Central government observed open defection free certificate for all districts.
  • MSME loans credit is increased from 12.1cr to 22.6cr.
  • 4G mobile network is accessible to 98.7% of population from 94% in 2018.
  • The portion of female representation in state assemblies are reduced by 2 points.
  • Installed renewable energy generation capacity is increased by two fold from 63.2 to 136.5 watts per capita.
  • 0.2% increase in judges number in 8 years from 1.33 per lakh population in 2016 to 1.5 per lakh population in 2023.
  • Most of the comparisons are made around 2015-16 data that showcase the high numerical values of progress.
The National indicators for tracking progress is needed to timely update development on poverty line 
officially defined by Suresh Tendulkar Committee in 2009.
